The Bachelor study programme

Information and Communication Technologies

is waiting for you

At the Study Programme, we deal with everything related to the processing and transmission of multimedia information.

Students will learn to process and code audio and video signals, design and implement data transfer protocols on all layers of transmission networks, and design complex communication infrastructures. Our field of expertise spreads across all modern applications from 5G+ networks through optical communications through smart environments to Metaverse. For a long time, we have been solving important international and domestic projects with excellent results.

Study Information and Communication Technologies with the same-named institute.

In the subjects of our Institute of Multimedia Information an Communication Technologies, we bring information to students about the latest trends in the field of information and communication technologies: 5G+ mobile networks, the Internet of Things, modern multimedia signal processing algorithms and their diverse applications in the modern world ranging from smart home to Metaverse. When teaching, we use appropriately chosen educational methods, from paper and pen to virtual and augmented reality.

IMICT offers quality facilities for your study and research efforts.

Widespread Focus

We focus on all aspects of processing and transmitting of signals and multimedia content, including virtual reality, over all types of networks. You'll find your focus whether you are more hardware- or software-oriented.

Modern Equipment

During teaching and when solving projects, we work with the latest technologies and equipment and push the boundaries of their use. We're not afraid of VR headsets or optical welders.

Projects and Patents

Professors together with students create technologies supported by patents and industrial designs as part of international and domestic projects. Many of our projects focus on teaching and sharing knowledge.

Study Orientation

Although we do not distinguish between study areas, by choosing suitable subjects, the student can focus on a professional direction that interests him/her already as part of his/her bachelor’s studies. In addition, optional subjects will help to gain a deeper understanding of a specific professional issue, for example, during the solution of a bachelor’s thesis. Below we list the framework areas in which students can develop.

At the same time, the Information and Communication Technologies study programme prepares applicants in all aspects for a possible (and suggested) subsequent master study in the Multimedia Information and Communication Technologies study programme.

Multimedia Processing

Technologies of coding and processing of sound, image, video, and 3D signals.

Transmission Systems and Networks

Coding techniques for content transmission on all communication media.

Connection Systems and Networks

Functional connections and end-to-end solutions for communication devices.

Telecommunications' Management

Management of telecommunication systems and quality control

Laboratories

Good research and teaching can only be done in good laboratories. At ÚMIKT, we have at our disposal several well-equipped laboratories run by experts on relevant topics, which are available to students during the teaching process and for solving independent projects and final theses.

Smart Room / MMCLab

Multimedia Communications Laboratory

In the lab, students configure and interconnect smart sensors and devices and interface them with software solutions for identification, data acquisition, access control, and automation, actively deploying new, natural human-computer interactions.

NGNLab

Next Generation Networks Laboratory

The laboratory provides equipment for research and development of network infrastructure and transmission technologies. It supports the linking of communication standards for backward compatibility and interchangeability needs.

IoTLab

Network Technologies Laboratory

In the laboratory, students deal with practical solutions and configuration of network devices and network infrastructures. They use Cisco devices, software and virtualized environments, but also hardware such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi.

SDRLab

Software Radio Laboratory

In this unique laboratory, students can work with software radio and practically configure the transmission and reception of analog and digital radio signals in various interfaces.

Teaching on High Schools

Many high school students have already come into contact with ÚMIKT activities. Within the educational projects, on which the team of ÚMIKT professionals continuously work, test and evaluate, we cooperate with several secondary vocational schools throughout Slovakia and abroad. These are projects in which we are looking for new innovative forms of teaching various subjects to help students better understand the issue. In addition to appropriately written texts, we also use interactive elements such as videos, augmented or virtual reality.

Learning Materials Portal

Over several years in international cooperation, we created a number of textbooks on various topics in the field of multimedia systems, wired and wireless network technologies, communication protocols and security. These materials are suitable for both high school students and university students. They are available in several language variants free of charge for all curious students.

Graduate Profile

Wonder how studies in the field of information and communication technologies stack up? We offer full stack of professional development for the aspiring learners to kickstart your multimedia-driven career.

Bachelor's Degree

Study Programme: Information and Communication Technologies

Graduates will receive a complete university education of the first degree. They will be applied in professions dealing with information and communication technologies in all aspects of activity, including the analysis, design, operation, maintenance and use of systems, as well as the design and implementation of multimedia services and applications. They will find application primarily in companies focused on building and operating telecommunication systems. The acquired knowledge also allows you to directly continue your studies in a subsequent engineering study program in the field of Informatics.

Master's Degree

Study Programme: Multimedia Information and Communication Technologies

The institute provides comprehensive second-level university education in the engineering profession dealing with telecommunication technologies in all their aspects. Graduates will find employment as creative workers in research, technical development, design and management in the fields of telecommunications, but also in all areas of information and communication technology applications. Emphasis is placed on graduates gaining in-depth knowledge in the chosen field of specialization, which will enable them to manage teams of workers in this field, lead even large projects independently, take responsibility for complex solutions and conduct research with a high degree of creativity and independence.

Doctoral studies

Study Programme: Telecommunications

Students apply for doctoral studies individually after prior consultation with their future supervisor. Graduates of doctoral studies acquire deep knowledge in their professional specialization. They will gain experience both from the teaching process and from work in a project environment, both on research and application projects in cooperation with practice at the local and international level. The study will teach them how to further develop their expertise, participate in research activities, lead professional research teams and publish in international scientific forums.

Study abroad with Erasmus+

Erasmus+ is a great way to complete a part of your studies at one of the 290 universities in 28 European countries with which the Slovak University of Technology has a Cooperation Agreement. For you, this means the possibility of studying at a foreign university for a total of up to 12 months. The European Union will directly support you financially.

Also in the 2023/24 school year, we offer studies in English for students from countries throughout the European Union.
