The project focuses on integrating artificial intelligence, machine learning, and low-latency edge-cloud solutions within 5G/6G networks. The aim is to achieve a demonstrable 20–30% increase in the efficiency of telecommunications and industrial infrastructure, support the deployment of innovative digital services and private 5G implementations in Slovakia, and thereby accelerate the country’s transformation into a regional technology leader. The project aspires to link academia with industry and a specific mobile network operator, focusing research on highly practical solutions—deployable in real-world operations—that reduce costs, shorten production cycles, and boost the competitiveness of Slovak companies. Significant export potential is also anticipated, offering the possibility of global expansion for the innovations developed.
Planned Outcomes
The project will establish a research base and infrastructure enabling the deployment of at least 15 private 5G/6G networks in Slovakia by 2029 and the practical validation of dozens of pilot solutions for smart industrial lines, healthcare applications, and transport systems. This will create an interconnected ecosystem of research and commercial partners equipped with testing laboratories, foster the generation of patents and international-level scientific publications, and provide real-world conditions for specific commercial deployments. Innovations in radio network optimization and the integration of computer vision at edge nodes can yield significant operational cost savings and efficiency gains of up to 40%, with an impact extending beyond Slovakia through the broader dissemination of knowledge within the European context.
Project purpose and expected results:
Key project outputs
Key contributions will include robust AI/ML models for predictive telecommunications network management, methods for the energy-efficient integration of edge computing, and the large-scale deployment of ultra-precise localization in industry and transport. “Blueprints” will also be developed for implementing private 5G networks in hospital environments, industrial facilities, and transport hubs. Furthermore, the project will deliver new software platforms for C-V2X communication and highly secure 5G/6G solutions, alongside a set of methodologies for deploying smart networks across various economic sectors. This will pave the way for new business models and long-term digital sustainability.
Expected key results by partner
Academic institutions (ÚMIKT FEI STU, FIIT STU, FEI TUKE) will develop groundbreaking, innovative algorithms and prototypes for AI-driven network management, publish their findings in leading scientific journals, and create new study programs focused on 5G/6G and edge computing. Industry partners, led by key player O2 Business Solutions, anticipate the deployment of private networks and new smart services, as well as reduced operation and maintenance costs, across both industrial facilities and telecommunications infrastructure.
